EM, I have a nice 1-4x optic on my 45/70 lever gun. It has a red and green illuminated reticle that is a big circle and just a small dot in the center. Its held up good so far on the br7sh gun and would see no problem with it on an Ar. I'll get a name off of it tomorrow for ya.

I was looking at some of his vids. I don't navigate Youtube well enough to narrow down "just his optics" vids, but have viewed several looking at cheap red dots.
That's where I got the idea of 3-9x40... I saw him review this VISM (by NCStar) for $80 shipped after discount code.

I know, I know... "NCStar"... not sure I want to risk the $80.

I'm more inclined to take a chance on a $35 red dot though.
Unless I find a "better" cheap red dot, I'll probably try this one.
In a quality red dot, I want "instant on" OR a mega-long battery life that can be left on all the time.
Since that isn't going to happen in a cheap unit, this is a good compromise with the auto-shut down after 12 hours in case I forget to turn it off.
Push buttons seem easier to turn it on quickly than turning a knob.
"Battery Life: 12-hour auto-shutdown feature maximizes battery life. Typical battery life is 300 hours at maximum brightness and 6,000 hours at minimum brightness setting."

I had every intention of getting a decent red dot like the Sig Romeo 5 that PSA has on special for $119 - until I spent my "gun budget" on a complete upper.

Still interested in learning more about magnification options...

I remembered I just got a 25% off coupon code for ATIBAL sights.

Looked and saw they have a 1-4x SFP for $220 or $165 after discount. (no mount though)

    Here's a decent 30mm PA mount for under $30.00.

704 just put this video out today on this weaver 30mm mount for under $50.00.

Optics planet has it for a few dollars cheaper and you can use a 5% off discount code, they also ship free.

I have this on my AR9 not sure about 200 Yds but its great at 100, I wasn't 100% on it but for the price I was willing to try it out. Works great and I've had no issues with it at all. something to consider

The change in magnification is quick because of the PCL (power change lever).

One more note: the illumination is not as bright as a true red dot can be. Also I've never tracked it, so I can't comment on the click accuracy. And the BDC distances are incorrect in some manuals (it's 100,300,400,500,600 not 100,200, etc). And I've never used it at truly long distances.
I have this scope on my AR. It works great up close. I've never shot it past 100 yrds. The illumination in not awesome. On a bright day it's useless. Fortunately you can leave it off and still see the reticle. I think it's a great scope for the price. Bushnell also has a great warranty. It bridges the gap between a red dot and a magnified optic without buying both.

Take the money you have saved up right now and put it somewhere that you cant get it easily if you have will power issues.
Hell I'll put it in my safe for you LOL
Then save up the same amount and do it again.
What ever you do, do not waste your very hard earned money on that NC Start type shit.
Deals and sales will come around again. Don't make stupid choices because you have a handful of play cash.
