Pheasant hunting Berks County
Though I live in Bucks, we are considering trying Berks County next week for the first time. The game commission website states they stock game lands 106 and 280 and also Blue Marsh. However, I imagine they only stock specific fields/areas and I cannot find ANY information on details. Where I am from, if you are not a local who knows exactly where to park off the side of the road to access the stocked fields, you would have NO idea where the birds are actually stocked... is anyone familiar with hunting any of these Berks locations? Any recommendations on which area is best and WHERE we can actually use as a map location to find the fields that are actually stocked??? Thank you!

Re: Pheasant hunting Berks County
Three things you might not know about pheasants:
They run very well
They fly pretty well, too
They are notorious scofflaws, they refuse to follow direction
What does this mean to you? It really doesn’t matter which field they are released into, they will eventually run or fly to another field. You should listen for their raspy laugh if you want to know where they are. They sound a lot teenage kids skipping school, with a bag of weed, and the Truant Officer is circling their position an$ they are taunting him by screeching out an avian version of Marco Polo.
Good luck!

Years ago I belonged to a game preserve in of all places...…...Birdsboro. It is a subdivision now, I believe but back then they'd stock Pheasants. You need a dog. A pointing dog, not a flusher. He points, you flush. I had a German Shorthaired Pointer, and he was a pretty natural bird dog after some basic instruction. Do you have a dog?

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Manxdriver again.
Excellent description there MD. When I was in 3rd grade, and pheasants were much more plentiful, I used to stalk them in some fields near my house. That and chasing rabbits. Life was good then!Illegitimus non carborundum est

In the SGL where I've hunted pheasants, all you have to do is be there on stocking days and use a scanner to listen to the FRS and GMRS frequencies. There is always a group of hunters who stalk the pheasant truck and exchange information on where it left pheasants and which way it is going next.
The birds that aren't shot right away will end up in typical pheasant habitat. Look for fields bordered with woods with nearby water.Boy, I say boy, you're reaching the limits of my medication!

If they stock it, than just about anywhere on the game lands should be good. I have always had success in the thickest areas like multifloral rose for instance,
it seems the birds head there for cover, it also helps if you have a dog, and maybe another hunting partner.
