Default What do you think happened?

I was at the range today shooting my P-64 (9x18). Was trying 3 ammo brands; Sellier and Bellot, Fiocchi and some Russian brand that I bought just because I liked the box design. It was a pretty uneventful shoot until this happened. I pull the trigger and immediately feel a blast of what appeared to be gunpowder all over my face accompanied by lots of smoke rising from the ejection port and black stuff on my hand. I am glad I had safety glasses on. I think it was one of the Fiocchi rounds that did it. Needless to say, that gave me a pause. The rest of the shoot went fine. It's a bruising gun/ammo to shoot. Wondering if all 9mm Makarovs shoot like this. The S&B felt hotter of the three.

The P64 sucks more then the others in 9x18. The CZ-82 is a dream of a pistol to shoot as it’s a very natural pointer. As far as what happened hard to say, did you inspect the casing?

No, I didn't. I wish I had. I was getting better groups with the Fiocchi though. The Russian wasn't too bad either. There's not much selection in 9x18.

Been eyeing one too. Will look for it at the show next week. Wonder who carries CZs there?

Yeah mostly steel cased is what I shoot, PPU also makes a few different flavors including a JHP. I have a few boxes of Hornady Critical Defense for when I thought I might carry the P64, that moment passed after I pulled the trigger.

AIM has shooter grade 82's in stock right now if you have a C&R it's not a bad deal.

Well I'll guess. You had an out of battery round go off. Check and clean and lube the disconnector.

Meaning what? Was it a gun malfunction or ammo related?

Could be either one if that is what happened.
Saving the spent casing will be helpful in diagnosing future malfunctions.
