    Default AK VS AR

I apologize if this has already been discussed but I am curious as to what the differences would be in the AK platform vs the AR platform for todays modern sporting rifles? What would be the pros and cons of each and do you prefer one over the other? From what I have noticed, it seems there are a lot more accessories for the AR rifles for customization. But is one more reliable and enjoyable to shoot? More accurate?

The only real difference is the second letter.

    Either one is equally pleasurable.

With as cheap as AR builds are these days, its hard to justify a commie weapon.

^that. I love AKs but even decent AKs (WASRs) are running a minimum of $700 now. You can get a basic, no thrills AR for $500 (often less) and it will run and shoot just fine.

I have one AK and a bunch of AR's. The ergonomics on the AK suck. The trigger sucks. The stock is way too short. Fit and finish is garbage. It's pretty reliable and the accuracy is pretty decent. The trigger and stock length could be fixed easily with aftermarket parts. I'm not a fan. I see the genius in the simplicity of the design but it seems very utilitarian.

AR the trigger is better but not awesome. Heavy and gritty. Ergonomics are way better. Accuracy depends on the rifle. One I have is 3/4 moa another is about 2 moa. All my AR's are very reliable. I've done trigger work to all my guns which made a huge difference. My favorite is Geissle. AR's are easier to mount optics on and have way more accessories available. I think there is no comparison between the two. The AR is a joy to shoot. The AK shoots. Either one is reliable. You should play with both before you buy and see what you like. Both are good guns.

I prefer everything about the AK other than its availability on the US market in 2018. I own twice as many ARs.

In terms of platforms, modern AKs are still pretty crude compared to ARs.

not bad, just clunky... I will leave it at that. 7.62 vs 5.56 is a separate argument.
