NY Gun Owners May Need to Divulge Social Media Passwords

A proposed bill in the New York State Senate could mean that anyone wanting to buy a gun or renew their gun permit will be subject to a review of their internet history and social media accounts.
Bill S9191 was drafted by State Senator Kevin Parker from New York’s 21st Congressional District and “requires a person applying for a license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver or a renewal of such license to consent to having his or her social media accounts and search engine history reviewed and investigated for certain posts and/or searches over a period of 1-3 years prior to the approval of such application or renewal.”

If they can't ban guns then they will settle for making things as uncomfortable as they can for law abiding owners.

Not that I would defend such a rape of both the 1st and 2nd, but, people are dumber than you think. I would not be surprised if they caught a few folks for searching or reading articles that do not agree with the current PC train of thought. IE, what if they call Breitbart a terrorist inflaming webpage and clearly they don't want those folks armed. Dangerous slope they are on. But, faster we get to confiscation or all out bans, faster we can hit rock bottom.

Otherwise, it will be like NJ and mental health checks, just another infringement in the day of the life of a law abiding citizen trying to follow the asinine shit legislators think up.

So what happens when your macbook blows up and apple support wipes it? You're just unable to buy a gun now? Would they try to pull your logs from your ISP? There's no way that would stand in the courts.

I say make every politician running for any office have to do the same thing, only they have to reveal their entire digital history as a matter of full disclosure.

They can submit to drug tests too, while they're at it.

If the bill passes, investigators would be able to look for posts or searches that contain threats to the health or safety of others; intentions to carry out an act of terrorism; or commonly known profane slurs or biased language describing the race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender, religion, age, disability or sexual orientation of a person, the bill says.
I am surprised they limit the language to "commonly known profane slurs". I love being creative with my profanity.
So basically, Trump voters who are de facto homophobic, Islamophobic, racist, misogynistic, bigoted deplorables would be targeted. Or anyone who supports a border wall or smaller government.

Being racist or profane is not illegal, just frowned upon. Not enough to remove a basic right.
