Pistol denotes autos not revolvers, so there's really only one that has been in production since 1910 and if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery , the Colt 1911 is the King of the World. No other combat pistol has proven itself thru the mud and muck of the trenches of WW1 to the blowing sand of the Gulf conflicts. No other pistol has been copied by as many manufacturers , licensed or not.

And no other semi-auto pistol cartridge has the one-shot fight-stopping reputation of the .45 ACP. The standard issue 230ger FMJ 'ball' round has a track record the most modern magic 9mm hollow point can't match.

Has not been addressed but when you really get tired of your pistol for over 30 years like Glock, which pistol would be a good choice to go to ?

And do you stick with another time-proven classic , or try something new , improved , if not proven?

Modern 'combat' automatics by the more reputable , established makers , seem to last about 5-10yrs , then get revamped or replaced.

Guns that were all the rage a few years ago , are long forgotten or tucked away for investment.

The Beretta 92 evolved from the P-38 , which lasted in production , but never widely copied.

The CZ-75 has evolved and been widely copied , both directly and indirectly. Probably the most widely copied auto since the , , , 1911!

I really like the CZ-75, and its many variants, and options which are now sold. They seem more interesting to me than any polymer pistol. Great shooters too.

I agree with Brian, the original "M&P", not one of those "Tupperware Creations masquerading as an "M&P"! In addition, the term "pistol" covers all handguns; all you have to think about is "horse pistols" and their offspring. Dave_n
