Re: What are the best skills to have if SHTF
Truly entertaining reading here.
Few thoughts to consider if the grid was hard down... like FOREVER.
- There will be no electricity, water, Internet or mobile phone service.
- Your F150 will run out of gas and your debit card won’t work at the pump.
- The local Giant and Walmart will be looted bare.
- Your bank will laugh at you.
- All you preppers will be overrun by those who WILL take your hoarded stores (you can only defend against the horde for so long before you need sleep).
To answer the OP question though... from a “skills” perspective, anyone who was in the service (including Airmen) probably has an advantage over the sheeple.

I's called security and guard duty and it's a reason why trusted people need to ban together. Former military or not if your going into it with zero plan your pretty much screwed.

Glad your amused but shit does happen and since I’m responsible for a family I see having some common sense preprations in place one of my basic responsibilities.
It’s funny that there are regular people in other places in this world born into and living in what we would consider SHTF situations for their whole life yet to talk of anyone having to do it here you have to be either a highly trained vet or your just some TV watching “sheep” who will die in the 1st day.
Lucky for me I don’t watch TV.

Hopefully, my family and I will not survive a first strike... I don’t want them being led by Rick Grimes and nor do I want to live in that world.
Now go and stock up on MREs.

Your plans need to factor that in, what you'll do when the local cops are going door to door and stealing all the food for "fair distribution".
They went door to door and stole all the guns they could find after Katrina. If Yellowstone erupts and covers the globe in ash, and no crops grow for a few years, there WILL be local fascists seizing EVERYTHING. Decide now whether you prefer hiding your stash in undetectable nooks, or shooting you entire local PD and then waiting for the military to use RPG's on your home.
I don’t know the exact dynamics of NOPD and Katrina, but your statement got me thinking, and of residency requirements in particular. Now that PPD cops can move outside the city after five years, where would their loyalty be? If they became close with their suburban neighbors, would they all band together to survive or follow pathetic politicians and their orders in the inner city ?

gun's sig reminded me.
a drop leg holster is an absolute necessity in these shtf scenarios.
you will have like a 20% greater chance of survival with one.
but seriously, if you want to learn how to survive, simply go to streaker's. become streaker.
because when the power goes out, some people will continue living as they always have been.
There is no way to make it out alive...

Funny, a little while ago I was thinking that if the grid went down tomorrow for good it would just be another regular old Monday for the Amish folks.
