Re: Any luck?
Nothing but raindrops on Monday. The neighbors said they saw some deer but I didn't. Tues, I saw 3. One was a buck (I think) but not legal, the other 2 were does that I couldn't get a shot at (I have a DMAP tag for Disease Mgmt Area 3). Came home from DuBois to Somerset this afternoon, saw about a half dozen hunters out and about plus a few trucks along the road. Didn't see any deer on the trip home.
Plans are to be out Friday afternoon and Saturday.

Hadn't deer hunted for I don't know...7 years....went this year and got a 7-pointer. From the shelter of an outbuilding. Paid my dues when young, like on foot at 6 degrees and 30 mph wind. I fell for the enticement of the 6.5 Creedmoor. The buck fell from it.

Re: Any luck?
Damp and about 3 hours of solid rain on Monday. I saw 10 deer and one black bear. Only one buck and he wasn't legal. I considered it a good day but no one else in my hunting party even saw a deer. 15,000 acres of SGL and I heard probably 10 shots on the mountain all day. Tuesday we went to a smaller SGL a bit closer to camp. Hard wind, blowing snow all day. Saw 2 doe, shot one to fill my disease management tag for the area.

Re: Any luck?
Our youngest got a nice smaller buck his first time out on opening day. We were out in 2C on my common law BIL's property.
It was cold and rainy but we saw about 10 small does. I was surprised how much they were moving around in that weather.
My CLBIL's buddy took a huge 8 pointer on Tuesday. There were two 8's together, and the other one ran right past where my BIL was sitting, five minutes before he walked back up to the house to warm up. He was pissed that he left his spot, but happy for his bud.
I only saw two little does before 8:00 on Tues. It snowed most of the day starting the night before. Saw two more at about 2:30 and decided to pack it in shortly after. My cold tolerance took a hit on Monday after getting rained on all day. My toes were freakin freezing.
Heard some turkeys and saw lots of bear poo. It was a good time even though I didn't get a shot.

Re: Any luck?
Dont mean to hijack this thread but saw for the first time ever driving down RT 33 a dead deer on side of the road with a red fox munching away on the carcass in broad daylight.
