44 Mag for Lever Action???

Getting ready to reload for a 1894 Marlin in 44 mag. Got plenty of 240 grain types of bullets. Got plenty of 44 mag type powers. Curious what you fine folks do?? Also very interested in the 225 grain Hornady FTX.

Long barreled pistol-caliber (.357/.41/.44 mag) carbines beg for slow burning powders like H-110 aka W-296 , 2400 , AA#9 , IMR-4227.

I would use Lil'Gun. Originally designed for 410 shotshell. Really shines in straightwall magnum cartridges. I use it for 50 Beowulf, 460 Mag, 445 Supermag, 450 Bushmaster, 500 Mag, 444 Marlin, and 45/70.

Utilizing the powders I had on hand I've found mine likes 2400 for 240 gr .432 cast, and 296 with 240 gr. jacketed.

NO I DID NOT.

SO my SWC 240 Grains don't cycle through the action very well. Guess I'll have to use some Hornady or some Sierras.

Concerning using cast, SAAMI specs are different for pistol and rifle in the .44 magnum. Pistol .429 groove diameter vs rifle .431 groove. Suggest slugging the barrel.
I tried .429 first without knowing any better but found performance came together with fatter slugs. YMMV
