6.5 Creedmoor is surpassed
Figures. Bought a rifle, dies, brass, bullets, powder, 'scope and here comes the 6.5 PRC (Precision Rifle Cartridge) that is at least 100 fps faster.
LOL.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor is surpassed
I'm not giving up old calibers for newly minted ones anytime soon.
Way too many to reload and at some point, I have to draw my line in the sand:
For muzzle-loaders (have molds for all of them too):
All the civilian muzzle-loader rifles in .36 caliber - check.
All the civilian muzzle-loader rifles in .40 caliber - check.
All the civilian muzzle-loader rifles in .45 caliber - check.
All the civilian muzzle-loader rifles in .50 caliber - check.
All the civilian muzzle-loader rifles in .54 caliber - check.
All the military muzzle loader rifles in .58 caliber - check.
Alll the military muzzle loader rifles in .69 caliber - check.
For cartridge rifles: (have all the reloading dies for them too):
All sportsman rifles in 22-250 Rem - check.
All sportsman rifles in .250 Savage - check.
All sportsman rifles in .270 Win - check.
All sportsman rifles in .30-30 - check.
All sportsman rifles in 300 WBY Mag - check.
All the military rifles in .30-40 Krag - check.
All the military rifles in .303 Britt - check.
All the military rifles in .30-06 - check.
All sportsman rifles in .38-40 Win - check.
All the military rifles in 5.56 x 45 - check.
All the military rifles in 7.62 x 51 - check.
All the military rifles in 9.93 x 62 Mauser - check.
All sportsman rifles in .400 Jeffry - check.
All sportsman rifles in .404 Jeffry - check.
All sportsman rifles in .416 Rigby - check.
All sportsman rifles in .44 x 40 Win - check.
All the military rifles in .45-70 - check.
All sportsman rifles in .45-120 - check.
All the military rifles in .577/450 - check.
Odd Balls: (have all the reloading dies for them too):
My wife's 6.5 Creedmoor - check.
We're doing just fine with the "rounds" on our plate.
I'm not sure how much more manufacturers of "new and improved" calibers can pull demand forward to pay their stock bonuses, fund pension plans, and increase dividends to the shareholders. Which are about three reasons why some ammo will eventually become more expensive - one of the other reasons why you should have reloading dies, projectiles, brass, primers, powder, etc. for many of your favorite calibers.
And will owning this new caliber make a difference in our lives? If I was 30 years younger, maybe "yes". These days, I'm not so sure.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor is surpassed
So...it's the equal of the 6.5-06...more or less
Which is surpassed by the 6.5-284 and it's equal the .264 win...more or less
Which is surpassed by the .26 Nosler.
Which is supassed by the 6.5-300wby.
The CM fits a short action.
The PRC and the others I mention all need a long action.
If you want more you can have more, you just need to decide how much more you want.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor is surpassed
The 6.5 Creedmoor was developed to be a highly efficient, high B.C. projectile, long range cartridge, and to fit in an AR-10 magazine. It was already bested by many other calibers, but it was designed for a very specific function and it serves that function damn near perfectly. It's also the easiest cartridge I've ever handloaded for, it's very forgiving and shoots accurately enough with every powder and pill combination I can put through it.
There is a fantastic article comparing the 6.5 Creedmoor and the .260 Remington floating out there somewhere on the internets, do a google search for it and you'll better appreciate the merits of your creedmoor.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor is surpassed
Don't let it bother you. My 6.5 X 55 Swede can be loaded to velocities that approach 6.5 Creedmore levels and its a "century cartridge" just able to be performance improved because of modern steels and rifles.

Re: 6.5 Creedmoor is surpassed
Yeah. I would not be concerned. I load my 6.5x55 Swede for my modern action Savage and it pushes the 140gr. Hornady ELD to 2800+fps and I shoot it at the Ridgeway 1,000 yard varmint silhouette.
It's the bullet that has the BC and SD that makes it keep it's down range speed. Whether you launch it from the 6.5 Creedmore, 6.5 Swede, 260 Rem, 6.5-284 Norma, 6.5 Carcano......Ok....maybe not the Carcano.....But the bullet will do the work from all of 'em. Granted, a quality barrel, properly free floated and if you handload, proper brass prep, and all of those 6.5mm cartridges will do very well.
