    Default Model 1860 Colt Revolver

Hoping to find out some more information and possibly a value on this pistol. It was handed down to me.

Wow! That's the real thing. Colt 1860 civilian production made in 1862. Called the 'military model' because of the cut for the shoulder stock. The lack of US mark on frame or cartouche on the stock makes it civilian production , but , many civilian models did get purchased by state militias or National Guard units. Definitely worth a Colt research letter. Value is probably in the $2000-2500 range.

Thanks Abner for the great amount of information. Very exciting to have such an awesome piece of history. I went ahead and submitted for a colt research letter! I also posted up in the Rifles board a 1836 Harpers Ferry musket I received as well!

All matching numbers. Doesn't seem to have been abused. The bluing is gone , but that's normal 'patina' from age. No deep rust or pitting. They were mostly kept in full-flap leather holsters , in all weather. The flat springs are the weak point in those guns. But if it were mine , I'd definitely shoot it occasionally with some mild black powder charges (25grs 3F) and a soft round ball.

One very sweet Colt. I'd definitely take it out to the range.
