A man discharged his personally owned handgun on Tuesday in the Lancaster County Courthouse.

The man was retrieving his handgun from a storage locker on the first floor of the building when he discharged one round from the gun, according to the Lancaster County sheriff's office.

No one was struck by the bullets or injured.

Lancaster County Detectives interviewed him and are investigating.

The man surrendered his weapon and left the courthouse after speaking with detectives.

According to the Lancaster County sheriff's office, court facilities must provide a secure location for citizens to store their firearms when conducting business in the facility.

This is a big flaw with storage lockers and gun check-ins. The gun should never be removed from a holster, even during check-ins though, but depending on who is doing the check-in, that can change. When I check in, I remove my belt and hand them the whole holster.

The safest place for a gun is to remain secured in a holster on someone's hip, not being passed around and placed in a lock-box.

    Still, control your finger, man.
