Default Info On At Home Parkerizing?

Who has done DIY parkerizing? I'm very interested in doing this to refinish my Beretta but I'm curious about cost. How much does a typical park job cost you? I imagine the recurring costs would be less since you can reuse the hot plate and pot (I assume anyway) and maybe some of the other materials. If I wanted to try it and see how it turns out, can I use the solution on multiple things or would it need to be dumped once I take the part out? What I mean is if I were to park a knife or something to see how it goes then do the pistol. Same day. Probably immediately after removing the knife from the solution. Thoughts?

The start up isn't cheap. Tanks, burners, fuel, park solution and copious amounts of running water.
There are two basic types of park. Manganese and Zinc.

I've done quite a lot Manganese. It's not difficult if you can follow instructions.
Certainly not worth the cost unless you are doing several hundred dollars worth of jobs.

Also, Parkerizing works on steel- not stainless. Also won't color aluminum.

Damn. It's worth it to do the Beretta but if it can't color aluminum, maybe not. I didn't realize I posted this in gun pictures, not gunsmithing. Oh well, I got the answer I needed either way. Thanks!

If the Beretta is a 92, the frame is anodized aluminum alloy. You possibly might for an FFL that does black hardcoat anodizing, or contact the service dept of Beretta USA to see if they would refinish the frame for you.

As an alternative, have the frame Cerakoted with the Cerakote black anodizing / black parkerizing look-alike coating. They can do the slide, too.

I've done a few pistols and even more parts with home Parkerizing solution , a stainless pan , and the side burner on my grill. Came out great. Proper preparation is everything. The Brownells kit or there's usually a guy who sells good stuff at Oaks.

Anodizing requires all ferrous metals to be removed.

I called there last week to ask about that and frame checkering, they said 90 days. Fine. I drove out there (it's an hour from where I live) and the first guy says they're not taking any more Berettas, then the other dude says 8 months and not to bother calling in 2 months to see if it's done. I'm sure Josh does great work but the people who work in the store are useless.
