Firearms Design and Suggestions
So here's the story: one of my college engineering professors gave us an assignment to design a new mechanism or improve an existing one of our choice. My question to you all is, what's your gripe about your gun? What do you wish it could do technically? Tell me any improvement you'd want made to an existing firearm. Failing that, what would you like to see in a new design? Any specific features, or uses that you have? I'm looking for ideas at this point, however production is a possibility at some point in the future. I figure that I have to do this, may as well make it something viable and marketable. Any ideas are welcomed. Thank you.

You could develop a gun with biometrics in the grip. Only the proper owner could fire it.
Lots of lawmakers are demanding these be mad but I don’t think anyone has developed one that works.

That would make him rich but horrible for he rest of us.
Do they have pistol cameras for police?
Perhaps retrofit a pinhole spy camera into a Crimson Trace grip laser, so recording activates when you hold the grip?
If you get rich, I want a cut.

How about a 1911 that releases the slide when a fresh, loaded mag is inserted?

Re: Firearms Design and Suggestions
Howz about a built-in infrared sight for a pistol that works out to 10-15 yds? No front sight, no rear sight. Just an internal or external holographic infrared sight. When it glows brightest, press the trigger.
You probably need some programmable/over-ride functions for distance and targets, too. Maybe tied in to an app on your IPhone?
Obviously such an innovation wouldn't work well at the range without the over-ride function (unless you also developed "Hot-wired Targets" run on solar/watch batteries, etc) , but maybe OK for home protection and such?
Also a bullet velocity "deactivator" that essentially deactivated/gravitated to the earth at some high multiple of the speed of gravity/extinguished the velocity/or disarmed the bullet after no hit out to 10-15 yds. Hence, fewer casualties from inaccurate fire and no need to hit a felon who is fleeing 10-15 yds. and running away.
Your Rottweiler or the cops will eventually get him....
And then a few laws that require cops to adopt this extraordinary technology and grandfathers in all the reloads from non-commercial reloaders for, say, the next 50 years from being required to meet this requirement.
You've got your work cut out for you, fer sure.
You're gonna need some micro chips here and out of the box thinking - maybe talk to Streaker....- bamboomaster

Re: Firearms Design and Suggestions
It has been done to death by geniuses over the centuries. I feel the lack of any really game changing designs in the last 75 years has proven the firearm is played out.
