    Default Transporting Rifle in Vehicle...

So I know you can't transport a loaded rifle in a vehicle. The ammo and rifle need to be separated... That's how I understand it anyhow.

So in the case of the Henry survival rifle (AR-7) the rifle being dismantled and the barrel along with the receiver are stored inside the stock. Also the stock can hold 2 8rnd mags along with a mag in the receiver. Could you keep the mags loaded inside the stock if the rifle is technically dismantled? Could you legally keep that in the vehicle? Or do the mags need to be in a separate compartment?

If the spare mags are in the stock (inside, superglued to the outside, whatever), obviously they're not in a separate compartment. Stick the rifle in a range bag, stick the magazines in one of the range bag's zippered (or snapped) pockets.

"Loaded." A firearm is loaded if the firing chamber, the nondetachable magazine or, in the case of a revolver, any of the chambers of the cylinder contain ammunition capable of being fired. In the case of a firearm which utilizes a detachable magazine, the term shall mean a magazine suitable for use in said firearm which magazine contains such ammunition and has been inserted in the firearm or is in the same container or, where the container has multiple compartments, the same compartment thereof as the firearm. If the magazine is inserted into a pouch, holder, holster or other protective device that provides for a complete and secure enclosure of the ammunition, then the pouch, holder, holster or other protective device shall be deemed to be a separate compartment.

It may boil down to either the Game Warden's or District Magistrate Judge's interpretation of the statute. One could say that spare magazines in the AR-7's stock have been inserted into the firearm, which would be a no-no for transport.

I understand why you would want too OP, but I can see how an asshole having a bad day could take it out on you jersey style.

I've been curious how loaded rifles are treated when a LTCF is involved, since it's a firearm and a firearms license and not a handgun/pistol license.

Read how "firearm" is defined in the LTCF regs.

A rifle with a barrel over 16" is a rifle, not a firearm.

A firearm requires a barrel shorter than 16".

This has come up before here, and yes, a rifle is not a default "firearm", but the word "loaded" is used and not defined elsewhere, leaving it to the judge to define it. Most judges would use the 6102 definition used for firearms, especially since rifles sometimes ARE "firearms" within the UFA.

This is also not the hill to die on. Stick a separate pouch on the outside of the rifle, put the mags in there.

Absolutely, and absolutely not a hill to die on since even if they don't get you under UFA, they'll get you under game laws.

It was simply a response to the whole how does an LTCF affect transport of a loaded rifle.

If the rifle is +16" it isn't a firearm, and isn't covered under the exceptions for LTCF and vehicle carry, so no loaded mags in the same container.

That's a really good suggestion - solves a lot of problems you really don't want to debate during a traffic stop gone bad...
