    Default Fopa and car ferry

Wife and I are taking a road trip in January. Leaving from NJ and headed to GA. Plan on bringing pistol to go to a range in GA

That being said, we plan on taking the cape may ferry, any thoughts on whether fopa protection applies to that? Obviously gun would be locked in trunk at this point as I'm leaving from NJ

The 3rd Circuit has ruled that getting out of your car at the airport starts a new trip, so transporting thru the airport to the counter is not covered, as you ended your first trip at the curb, and started your 2nd trip at the curb, which is not a designated starting/ending point exception under NJ law.

I don't know what exceptions you would be able to claim unless you stay in your car the entire time it's on the ferry - "Your honor, I was diving along near the shoreline, and the section of road I was on started moving out over the water. I stayed buckled in my car for safety until the road stopped moving, then continued driving to my destination."

My suggestion: GTFO NJ so you can stop asking these silly questions.

    This.

Also yes. Kind of simple, keep it in the trunk like you said and don't give people to ask to look and your fine.

    From the Ferry's website:

WHAT TYPES OF SECURITY PROCEDURES SHOULD A TRAVELER EXPECT?
By entering the Ferry property, people agree to searches of their baggage, vehicle, person or property and to provide a photo ID upon request. The campus is under video surveillance. Before boarding, foot passengers will pass through a metal detector and have their bags checked. All cars will be screened, including inspections by canine-police teams and drivers may be asked to open vehicles or pop open vehicle trunks.

Perhaps they're afraid someone will hijack the ferry and insist on going to Albania.

Its a road trip for the sake of seeing stuff so, the ferry is a cool aspect we wanted to try out.

Well, if jail is something cool you wanted to try out, then you should bring the pistol.

Looks like it's a roll of the dice at best, and almost guaranteed failure at worst.

I'm sure there's cool stuff to see along a route that involves simply driving.

Also, Eff NJ. I can't imagine life behind enemy lines...
