    Default snake needs identifying

    I'm terrible at identifying snakes. Came across this one on the Saucon Rail Trail Hellertown, coming out of the marsh area.

    He's young. Maybe 28-30 inches.

    Thoughts on what he is?

    Sandcut probably knows. I don't think copperheads have stripes but it's a possibility, have a picture of its head?

    Copperheads do have wide bands and their colors are not as dark.It could be some kind of water snake.

    It's an older Northern watersnake. They get darker the older they get and before they molt. Check out photo #4 in the link for one about the same color.
