Have you contacted the moving company? What do they say? Surely your Dad isn't the first person to face this problem. Why reinvent the wheel if they already have it figured out?

?,!? Why in the world would you ask a cop about gun laws?

You should be aware that while it can be illegal for a mere citizen to lie to a LEO, cops of all manner are encouraged to lie to get criminals to talk. There is no incentive for a cop to tell you the truth and no penalty for lying or merely giving out erroneous info.

Might as well ask the booger-eatin moron at the Wal-Mart gun counter.

Never ask a question unless you are ready for all possible responses.

I WOULD load dad and the guns into the car for a shooting trip in PA.
    TCOB here.

That is what I would do. But do what you feel comfortable with.

Because they write the laws, so I would love to see their interpretation the legal process to moving a pistol with a FID address that doesn't match your DL address. Its sarcasm, I would never actually consult them.

Cops do NOT write the laws. They merely enforce (their interpretation or opinion of) the laws.

I immediately thought the same thing, but then I read Its1ow's last sentence.

Not a slam on you. There are people who casually read our forum who do not know what pitfalls await when trusting police interpretation, and some who - sadly - actually think that cops do make law.

Lighten up there Francis. Interesting that you don’t want him to trust calling the NJSP or checking out their website, but have no problem giving him bad advice on an illegal act.

Yes for Pa and he can also do likewise when moving between residences within NJ

The NJFOID card has no bearing on pistol possession nor does the address on the NJ Pistol Purchase Permit if used to purchase that pistol.

Legally acquired/imported firearms within NJ can be possessed within one's residence by statutory exception as well as outside the residence when engaged in other excepted activities (hunting, range, moving between residences, etc) [ref: NJSA 2C:39-6]. The only bearing the FOID card would have is that it allows for possession of unloaded longarms, without the need for qualifying for the statutory exceptions, unless you are in a prohibited place (school, court, etc).

IMO is he stays with an NJ a non-prohibited daughter AFTER moving from the old residence and BEFORE the new residence is available, the daughter's would become his new residence (court may not agree) and he could keep the firearms there until his final move to the new residence.

Also note that, under Administrative Code, the NJFOID card is invalid 30 days after the address thereon is no longer valid - although I would argue that this can be challenged since it does not comport with the statutory scheme for invalidation.

Agree 100000%. But then I could care less what any crooked .gov thinks.
All of my guns are lubed with BACON GREASE.
