Default Re: FFL holder. Selling gun to your self question

Having held an FFL for over 40 years I know the ins and outs of the Federal side. The corporation has me as the president and my wife as VP. I always did a 4473 form when purchasing a gun from by bound book just to keep the records straight. Plus I keep a book of my personal guns.
It is the state side I have questions on. I have recently moved to PA from the Socialist State of NY. When I applied for my PA state License to Sell Firearms for the corporation, I was told by the Sherrif's Department that I could not get it until I had a valid PA drivers license and that the PA license was issued to be personally. I found this odd. In fact I asked the Sheriff who's name is the PA license in at Wallmart? Sam Walton? He said it had to be in the managers name who lives in PA. When setting up the PICS check passwords I did ask the State Police rep. do I PICS check myself. He said no I do not. Never thought to ask about filing the handgun transfer form. If no PICS check what number do I put in that box if I did send the form in? All this did not concern me much until now. As I did not find a need for ANOTHER gun. But now I do. You know how that goes !

Well, That is a good question. Since I fall under a different category than you, I frankly don't know the answer. However, I would call Michelle at the PSP Firearms Records Unit (the PICS people) at 717-705-8841 and ask her. She will get you an accurate answer.

    Xringshooter,
Thank you for the PSP contact name and phone number. That is what I was looking for when posting this question.

We are not the ones to ask this question, and you should have the numbers for all the relevant contacts of the Federal and State representatives of the ATF and PSP respectively. They are the only ones with the answers you need.

That said, when my boss who was the owner of the gun shop wanted to buy a gun from the shop, he would have one of us do the paperwork for him.

For anyone who is interested. I spoke to Michelle at PSP. I do not have to PICS check myself. I just write it out of my bound book to myself. I do not have to do a PICS check payment form since no PICS check was done. I also do not have to fill out or send in a handgun form for a handgun sale to myself. Since the PA License to Sell Firearms is issued to a individual, me, I am pre-approved for a sale. The sale to ones self is handled the same as the Federal side.
