Help me decide between these two rifles
I want an AK.
I don't have a lot of money to spend and I have narrowed it down to two.
Either a Wasr-10 or a Saiga 7.62
I am aware that the WASR is thought of as bottom of the barrel for an AK. I have two friends with them and I have shot the one and I like it.
I also know that a Saiga comes with a sporter stock and a 10 rounder. I have no problem with the sporter and the change to 30 round mags is fairly simple. I am also aware of 922r and intend to follow it.
So with that out of the way, can anyone recommend one over the other?

Take it from me, you don't need to spend much money to get a good, functioning AK. Even bottom of the barrels stuff is fine for a work gun, and that's what an AK is, they're not supposed to be pretty. Make everything is straight (front sight base for instance) and you're set. If the finish sucks, spray paint it with high-temp, if the trigger slaps like a sonofabitch, drop $30 on a G2 trigger kit.

If you dont have money to burn, avoid the Saiga. Mags can get very expensive, and 7.62 ammo is hard to find and very pricey at the moment.

That's because everyone on arfcom has a forklift palate of the stuff in their basement waiting for the zombie apocalypse. 762x39 is still a good deal cheaper to shoot than other rifle calibers. If you're waiting for the price to go down....don't hold your breath.

.308 winchester is 7.62x51. 7.62x54 is a russian cartridge that's currently can be had relatively cheap as well. Used in mosins, dragunovs and the PKM for instance. Originally Posted by LorDiego01

WASR (if you like the AK style). Don't believe the crap about them junk. They function and shoot as good as any AK you'll find under $500
