Frame Checkering
I really, really want some checkering cut into the frame of my 92FS and eventually probably my 92A1 as well. Has anyone ever done something like this to their pistol or had it done? After using VZ golfball grips for a few weeks, I realize there is such a thing as too aggressive so I'm not sure which file to buy. 20 lines per inch? 30? I'd prefer to just invest new gun level money into getting my 92FS checkered and fully refinished (because I hate the cerakote on it) over doing it myself. I've actually considered buying a steel airsoft replica to practice on. Suggestions? I've considered Wilson and Allegheny Arms but I don't want their logo on my gun and I get major anxiety thinking about sending my gun off or leaving it somewhere for 6 months.

Re: Frame Checkering
IMHO, I can't see spending that kind of money for cosmetics and a mod that marginally improves performance, if at all. Sometimes I think I should throw my guns down in the gravel and stomp on them, so I won't ever have to worry about damaging the finish. Personally, I think holster wear is sexier than expensive finishes.

Re: Frame Checkering
I'm with Scruff on this one.
To me guns are just tools, and they need to function more than they need to be pretty.
If I had money to burn maybe I would feel different, but things being as they are it's all about the utility for me.
If I was concerned about a grip, I would be looking at grip tape which comes in many forms to match your needs.
But again, if you have the cash and want to spend it, then do what makes you happy.
Finished product pictures are mandatory of course :PHow can you have any cookies if you don't drink your milk?

Re: Frame Checkering
Funny my 1911's have all that crap (30 lines per inch) on the front strap and I find it to be great looking but uncomfortable as Hell to shoot past a couple mags so I end up putting a cheap Hogue wrap around finger groove grips on them before I go shooting so I can enjoy my range time.
I definitely wouldn't go out of my way and spend a couple hundred on it that's for sure.Last edited by Hodgie; October 18th, 2018 at 01:27 AM.

Re: Frame Checkering
It's not cosmetic, I wanted it because it gets difficult to shoot accurately once my hands get sweaty since the vertical serrations are useless. I hadn't considered until recently that this permanent mod may make shooting the gun LESS enjoyable. I could only get through 4 or 5 magazines with the VZ golfball grips instead of shooting the 16 mags I have on a normal day. My wife will be happy that you saved us some money.
