Default Doing Battle With Fruit Flies

Or some kind of tiny flies. Been going on for some time; and it's become aggravating. NO FOOD OR FRUIT - VEGETABLES ever exposed. All trash in sealed conditioners. No plants ( exposed soil ) in the house. Only dry dog food in the dog's dish. The sticky ribbons work; but I want to find the source. I dislike chemicals, and hope to avoid setting off bug bombs in the house. It may seem trivial; but it has become very annoying. I have also checked drains, and the basement - nothing. Suggestions anyone?

Small container or canning jar with some apple cider vinegar in it. Cover tightly with plastic wrap. Poke a very small hole in the plastic.

The flies will go after the vinegar, and will not be able to escape again.

Where there are flies there are maggots. Are there more in one area than other areas? You may be able to find the source near the larger numbers.

    fungus gnats.

you can get them in drains you don't use a lot, damp hampers of clothes, all around the leaves outside.
    old trash.

    fruit flies are bigger iirc.

I have those little fluckers all over the place. Tried the ac vinegar and dishwashing soap, nothing but a stinky house that smelled of vinegar.
No extensive plants, drains are regularly flushed with lemon juice.

I worked on a hydrogen compressor at a restricted access site in Mehoopany early this summer. We were only allowed to bring two trucks past the security checkpoint. Someone loaded the trash bag into the back of my work van, and neglected to tell me. Also neglected to add that he left a few half eaten jelly donuts in that bag. Bastard!
My truck was loaded with flies for a week until I taped off the vents and opened the valve on my nitrogen cylinder in a hotel parking lot overnight. Killed every damned one of them.
You’d probably need a few cylinders for a house. Or, a dewar of liquid nitrogen.

Payback for that jerk involved a cat food can, with holes poked in it, monster- taped to a speaker magnet and slapped inside the frame rail of his truck. Cat foot prints, and cat piss all over his truck.

I've seen this happen before also.
    Gnats from constant moisture.
Control the moisture with proper ventilation or a dehumidifier and the problem will go away.

I have a property (three at the same stop actually) in the city that I mow and every time I'm there I feel like my legs are being bitten, but don't see anything. After really watching carefully, I'm pretty sure I saw these teeny, black bugs flying about. Every week when I leave, my legs are SO itchy - this doesn't happen anywhere else.
