Competitor: 686, or 629?

Well, I'm bored, have an itch, and it needs a scratch. I want to get a revolver at this point, and no, I can't make it easy on myself. I'm pretty much set on the S&W Competitor, but I don't know if I want it in .357, or .44mag. I have shot wheel guns before, but the only experience I have with a .44mag is with that S&W Hunter with the muzzle break(felt like a .357). I'm not gonna use it for hunting, but if it were that easy then I'd just get the .357 and call it a day. I want the .44mag. I just don't want to regret buying it after the first round. Does that extra weight make a difference in the recoil impulse, and how does it feel after 30 or so rounds?

UPDATE: Welp. I just held a 629 Competitor today at a local shop. Love. 'Love' is all I can say to describe it. 'Need' is the only way I can explain it. 'Want' is the only way I require to justify it.

Nope, but I’ve sold it. I know it’s expensive, but I feed my rifle 77gr. TMK’s from Black Hills, and don’t mind burning a few extra bucks on Magtech, Fiocchi, or Sellier Bellot for my .45.

If you really want the 44 and ammo cost isn't an issues, I say go for it. It's not that difficult to manage. I really enjoy shooting my 44mags, one of my favorite rounds to play around with. If you take up reloading you can load 240gr semi was cutters all day for less than factory 45acp.

I had a model 25(?)...6 inch blue .45 acp. Came with the box, $800. Loved it, was gonna convert it to 45 colt. Got the cylinder, but after a few rounds, got paranoid about the bore diameter being different. Sold it. Kinda regret it cause it was an actual classic, but i didnt want to mess with moon clips, so no 9mm.

I have a .357 revolver and it's nice to shoot, never had a problem. On the other hand, a few years ago a family friend let me try his .44mag at the range, after 6 rounds I handed it back to him. Im sure it's great for bear repellant, but it wasn't pleasant to shoot. That .44 stung muh hands real bad, and if I remember right, he had Pachmayer rubber grips installed on it too.

My hands are my life though so maybe I'm just a weenie. . YMMV

I bought the S&W 325. 45 ACP with moon clips. I use it in IDPA competition. It is straight up bad ass. Recoil is very managleble and it is scary accurate. Reloading with moon clips is also something I've come to enjoy. You can dam near throw the ammo at the gun and everything just falls in. Also the moon clips keeps you empty brass all in one spot. Also if you do use it for competition you get all your brass back at a lost brass match. They wont try to keep your moon clips or brass.

Plus it fires 45 ACP. Brass and ammo is everywhere.
