Arrow Inside the World of D.I.Y. Ammunition

This is actually a surprisingly well-written article by the NYT.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/05/u...mmunition.html

Wasn't able to detect any blathering negativity. Amazing...

Not yet lol. Just wait though.

This article should not be interpreted as a simple, descriptive piece about a legal, honorable, and worthy set of hobbies. The NYT clearly has no interest in doing that. It is a baseline informative piece containing the dog whistles after which collective hysteria can be nurtured and stoked.

DIY ammo makers (DIYAM) are making their own plastic guns. DIYAMs, not regulated commercial producers, are inventing and manufacturing the special ammo required for them to function effectively. DIYAM loaders make more lethal ammo, mostly by picking up that dastardly metal called "lead" that apparently is still littering our countrysides. DIYAM ammo is cheaper, avoiding taxes on the cost and profit from assembling it and allowing for more frequent, more widespread, more lethal firearm violence.

If the article attracts the concerns and outrages of enough readers . . . well, pile up enough water and you get a tsunami.

    Not paranoid . . . just experienced

"customize ammunition for heightened accuracy or lethality"
Only thing I saw that made me go hmm. Accuracy=lethality? OK gotta hit what your aiming at.
Or for better accuracy and to make rounds more lethal than commonly available?
But yeah for the NYT it was one of their better efforts.
It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

On the way to my home by UPS is box of Underwood xtreme .380, which Shooting the Bull says is IT for mouse guns. I do this knowing that if i ever have to employ it to the purpose for which it is manufactured, I will be painted in a poor light by survivors. But time is on my side. I am confident it too shall be surpassed technologically, and i shall soon look less extreme if and when forced to use it.

There's no news in Tass, and no truth in Pravda.
At least the Russian people knew that.

No News in Novosty (the latter word means "news" in Russian") and no truth in Pravda (pradva means truth in Russian).

Could have been the same as Don Biase showed above too.

Across the country, millions of weapons aficionados like Mr. Crumling reload their own ammunition and cast their own bullets — time-consuming hobbies that have been a part of firearms culture for generations.

Generations? Try since the conception. Its only the last few generations that has gun owners who only buy loaded ammo.
