    Default Marlin 336 - 44 mag

Seems odd /limited for a 336 in 44 mag? Anyone know for sure. Can get one used, great shape for reasonable price. Is it un common?

336 has been made in the following calibers that are no longer manufactured: .219 Zipper, .32 Special, .356 Winchester, .375 Winchester, .38-55 Winchester, .44 Magnum, .410 bore

Marlin added the .44 Magnum to the 336 lineup in 1963 as the Model 336T carbine. Marlin dropped the .44 Magnum option the following year after owners reportedly experienced continual problems in loading and chambering the short .44 Magnum cartridge.

If you reload and can get the rifle at a good deal I'd go for it. Bullet selection in 1964 wasn't what it is now. With a little effort you probably have a decent chance of finding a bullet profile that would work. I'd be willing to be the only option in 1963 to the majority of shooters was a 240 gr semi wad cutter. Now days you can find round nose, semi jacket soft nose, and other profiles that don't include the angles and flat nose of a wad cutter.

Played around with a couple older Marlins and found good info from these folks. This link is to their 336/44 section:

It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

For the price I'd do it. If you don't like it you could probably unload it at no loss. Since they were only made 1963-64 I doubt I doubt there are many. In the condition you describe there should be few.
