I did a ton of research on it and it came down to that or a Beretta Cougar in a LGS. Never regretted this...I even carry it sometimes (you saw it at the 2A rally in Harrisburg this year). If you want a 40 with low(er) recoil, look for a metal framed one like those two. They're both solid guns. (or Stoeger Cougar)

But, if anyone wants to make an offer for it (with 5 mags and all of my ammo, about 1500 rounds), I'll listen...I have this pesky AR-15 project that needs finished!

That is so purdy... I would love to make you an offer, but I've promised Mrs. Ronin that I wouldn't buy anymore guns this year. If I did buy this from you, I'd have broken my promise three times, so far....

Accurate, fun to shoot and what's 1 more caliber gonna hurt?
I remember that...when there was NO ammo of any caliber on the shelves, there was always 40 S&W. This is the reason why I got into it too.

Oh just to let everybody know how it turned out, the P229 I got has 2 barrels. 1 in 9mm and 1 in .40 S&W, so while I plan on carrying most of the time with 9mm, I'll be able to do both if I want to.

I'm picking up my P229 in 40 cal this Friday and plan to buy a 9mm barrel and mags down the road to drop in.

Thanks! Like some others here I only got into 40 cal because I noticed that was all that was on the shelves after Sandy Hook. I immediately purchased a Glock 23 and M&P 40 at that time. Later traded the Glock for a 357 and kept the M&P which I also swap a 9mm barrel into and out of. So far about 200 9mm rounds through it with not one hiccup yet. I"m hoping the Sig runs the same with the 9mm.

Ok so I dug up an old thread vs what did you buy today because I literally bought it today on line and y'all know what it looks like. M&P 40 2.0 compact 4in barrel for $299!!! My other guns are 9mm but thought this would be good for a nightstand home defense unit. Was surprised that 40 cal ammo is actually not that much more than 9mm so can run some stuff through it and settle on a favorite. My bet is 165gr HST. But don't know if 180gr is better. Kind of like 124gr vs 147gr in 9mm. Anyway for the price of the gun I'm excited to have another tool in my shop.
Any tips on good ammo. How about an interchangeable 9mm barrel for this gun. Should fit my M&P9 full size holsters right?

I have the same gun and love it. I haven’t found any 9mm barrels for it yet though.

I have a Glock 22 Gen4 that I shoot 9mm with. I use a Lone Wolf barrel, about $120 IIRC, Glock 17 mags and a Glock 17 spring and guide rod.
