Thanx , but I wouldn't say full recovery. 30yrs later , it hurts so bad some days I gotta use a cane to go to the bathroom.

They went in and decided to postpone reconstruction because of concern for infection. Maybe next week...

Infection is a major concern. Especially when an broken bone is exposed. I have Osteomyelitis in my leg. Have an open draining hole I need to keep a gauze pad on every day.

Chronic pain is a tough row to hoe.

I went thru the same ordeal back in '88. Spent 6mos in Hahnaman Hospital , 4 of them in traction. Destroyed my lower left leg , crushed my foot , shattered my femur , hip , pelvis , 4 vertabre , 6 ribs , shoulder blade , collarbone. Had 19 operations. Took 2 1/2yrs before I walked without crutches.

Damn. Not pretty, but it beats the alternatives.

Didn't really want to redirect this thread onto me , but I went thru a lot of hell over the years with this leg , , , and that's a question I still ask myself every day.


I do have a couple friends who lost their leg getting hit on their motorcycles , 2 above the knee , 2 below. And they question why I went thru what I did.

Man, that is a tough decision. I wonder how much medical technology has improved in 30 years though ?

I am sorry to hear this. He can over come this, however it will take some time. Tell your brother people are praying for him.


A friend of mine who fought for eight years to save his foot after a MC accident, had to have an amputation. After the amputation and a prosthetic, he said that, had he know the pain would have gone away, he would have had it cut off eight years ago.
