I agree. Unfortunately, unprincipled advocacy groups will organize and abuse this legislation, if it becomes law, to further they gun ban/confiscation agenda. When the law, as flawed as it is, proves unworkable the anti-Constitution crowd will keep amending it to make it more draconian. For example, they will claim that without gun registration, the law will not be able to track and assure that all guns subject to a PFA are located and confiscated. They will, as California has, demand that no intimate relationship be required so long as anyone with almost any connection (friendship, work, distant family, tenant, visitor), including police on their own motion, can file for an order.

What if in executing or verifying compliance with a PFA confiscation, police or appropriate law enforcement officials (truant officer, social workers?) find evidence of another crime or offense (pot or drug accessories laying around, a pile of unpaid parking tickets), can the accused be prosecuted on the basis of a confiscation operation with no warrant to support a search for other activity?

These are good objections. We'll have to see how the Case Law shakes out.

There are going to be people with some money who are going to challenge this in court.

How about cash? Maybe you were going to buy drugs with it, or maybe you sold drugs to get it? For a time Police were taking more things under civil forfeiture than burglars. May still be the case.

Ultimately the gun control lobby wants to make gun ownership an anti-social act. So that "You have guns.... you deserve whatever happened to you."
