    Default Marlin 30AS vs 336

As I understand it, the 30AS is just a low frills version of the 336 made for retailers like Sears. It is supposed to be mechanically identical, yet many of the manufacturers differentiate the 2 when buying certain accesories like sight. I am thinking htis may be because of the FRONT post. I am interested in buying a rail to mount a scope so if the top of the receiver is the same and the screw holes are the same, i can use 336 Rail.

Can any marlin expert here confirm that for me?

Receiver & screw holes are the same so yes you can use 336 rail...

The differences are mostly cosmetic: furniture (stock) and lack of a barrel-band (30AS has a front-end cap like some other Marlin models)...

(See pic for barrel-band vs end-caps styles...)
