Default "Anything more than five rounds and you are a problem"

In a conversation with another gun owner today, he declared that if anyone needs more than five shots to end a threat then they have a big problem, as in the big problem is that you are incompetent, and that no one 'needs' 30 round magazines or 'assault weapons' (common sporting rifles). Your thoughts? is there truth to the statement? ignorance? I withhold my opinion until I hear some thoughts from the community. I don't mean for this to turn into a flame war. I want to gather insight from other people that I recognize at least know half of what they are talking about, at minimum.

    Thanks.

I would say if you need more than 1 shot you're a problem. One Shot, One Kill.

Speaking to Fudds is infuriating. Did you try hitting him?

His 'logic' does not account for multiple assailants, which unfortunately is becoming more common. That's why they call them gangs!

I would add, given that the typical hit rate under duress is around 20% to 30% that means five rounds equal 1 to 1.5 hits. If that hit is a non-critical hit, you've emptied your gun and now you'll die because criminals know that more bullets are better than less bullets.

At the core of his desperate firefight was a murderous attacker who simply would not go down, even though he was shot 14 times with .45-cal. ammunition — six of those hits in supposedly fatal locations.

Did this person own a 1911 and wear shirts that proclaim .45 is the best cause they didn't make a .46 or some BS?

Personally, from reading a lot of police articles and reports from other shoots, I expect my performance under duress to go to shit so having more rounds available is better. And also if we are talking pistol rounds, they are pretty lousy at true one shot threat stops..

And that's a hit rate of 20% for a small slice of society that in theory has more training. I wonder what the hit ratio is for the wannabe that provided the opinion 5 shots is more than enough. Didnotcomply's acquaintance has probably never had a gun pointed at himself, not to mention been on the receiving end of incoming rounds. With that attitude no hunter should ever enter the woods with any more than one round and the critters don't shoot back.

It's all too easy when your experience is limited to putting holes in perfectly outlined silhouette targets, from a known distance, with a comfortable stance, on a sunny day in September.

24/7/365 I pocket carry a S&W J frame air weight with a laser. Entire thing is about a pound. For "formal occasions" I carry a Springfield XDM .45 with 2 extra mags (40 rounds total) in a shoulder holster....yes, I'm THAT old....and the J becomes my BUG. "For everything there is a season"

So, if you are confronted by two home invaders, do you call time out, and have them stand one behind the other?
