Re: "Anything more than five rounds and you are a problem"
The only time you can have too much ammo is if you're swimming or on fire.

1. We're all taught to shoot until the threat stops. That can be 1 shot or 17.
2. It's highly possible that an attacker may not immediately react to being hit. And not every hit is guaranteed to stop the attack.
3. Without a reaction from the assailant how can you tell if you hit your target? It's not like getting the feed back of seeing holes in paper at the range.
4. In addition, many times the defender is unable to accurately recall how many times he fired and is often surprised by the actual number. I even heard stories of defenders continuing to pull the trigger on a empty revolver.Toujours prêt

I carry a 5 shot revolver occasionally, my bedside pistol & rifle are loaded to 20 & 40 round capacity respectively.
my loadout for every day carry & home invasion are not the same & I wouldn't substitute one for the other.

Re: "Anything more than five rounds and you are a problem"
Hunting with my Dad and his friend, Herb. All quiet until a loud "Godammit" echoed several times from a distance. I could see Dad, so it was probably Herb. Nearing lunchtime anyway, we sauntered to him. He was really pissed at himself. A really nice buck had come in, and he failed to put it down with five rounds (from his lever-action .30-30).
Puzzled for a second, because we never heard a shot, I pointed out the answer to his problem. On the ground were five unfired rounds that Herb had levered out of the rifle, never once pulling the trigger.

No more than 5 rounds or I'm a problem? I carry 14 rounds in my EDC and a 17 rnd backup mag. Is it excessive?... I sure hope so, but I'll be pretty happy its there should it be needed. Steer clear of people who tell you to do silly things like limit ammo capacity or the number of firearms you own.

You never know when, in what manner, and by how many you may be attacked. If I need to defend myself or a loved one I am not going to be concerned about how accurate I seem to my shooting friends or others. I just want to stop the bad guy - period! No such things as overkill.
