Re: Rock Island 1911Tac II
I have a Kimber, a Mixmaster GI frame with an Ithaca slide and a RIA.
I shoot the RIA most accurately. My gunsmith did a touch up on the trigger and installed a beavertail grip safety. I added an extended slide release and some rubber side panels.
I bought it used for about $350. I would be amazed if I have $500 in it.

Great Discussion!
I am planning on buying a 10mm 1911 in the near future. RIA is one 1911 that is my list of 6" 1911s in 10mm. I always wanted a Long Slide 1911 since I was young. I need to sell a few more toys in order to fund my next 1911.

Re: Rock Island 1911Tac II
I've had a basic RIA .45 for about 5 years. At least 1000 through it. No issues what ever. No FTF's, jams, misfires. I use plain aftermarket mags, don't like that extended piece hanging off the bottom. For cosmetic reasons, replaced the plain grips with checkered. Good workhorse.

Re: Rock Island 1911Tac II
Got my first ria back when they were 200-250 new. Sorta dates it for you. Commander size in 45. Shake it and it rattles like a can full of marbles. Eats every type of ammo ever put thru it. Has been updated several ways over the years. New sights, new trigger, ambi safety, grip panels, recoil spring, extended slide stop and a General interior polish job. Gotta say it's very reliable and accurate. Kicked ass against others with higher $ 1911 in bullseye, bowling pin and clay bird shoots. Remember more $ don't always mean better sometimes it just mean more $.

Re: Rock Island 1911Tac II
Competition is typically a comparison in skills not the firearms used. Since you cannot buy skill a novice shooter will see little benefit from a high end highly tuned firearm. A basic bottom of the barrel RIA as long as it runs well will outshoot most shooters due to their lack of skill period.
