I then contacted the investigating officer, and he was much more helpful, and ultimately got the guns back to me after they were done with their investigation, no muss no fuss, they ran a NICS check on the spot at the barracks, and handed them all over. They are stored, until my mental state is such that I can make a rational decision on what to do with them.
Sorry for your loss and good luck working your way through it all.

If you need anything PM me. You are about to head down a road few understand unless they've been there. Once the shock wears off birthdays, holidays, mothers day, fathers day etc. will be like salt in the wounds. Get counselling and get child loss specific counselling.

    Sorry for your loss.

Phil-Please do wax eloquent on the creepy porn lawyer. Many of us would be amused by a good refresher on how to slice and dice a needy recipient without using the same tired old six words you cannot say on the radio. Ream on!

I thought the police had to give a receipt for anything they took as evidence for a investigation including serial numbers and description in case of guns or other valuables.

In my experience it depends completely on the police department. State police and Scranton police I had to get a judges order to release firearms. Wilkes-Barre police handed me two paper bags, one with my handgun and holster, the other with the mags and ammo. I loaded up and walked out the door.
