Default Gun shop employee says he needs to see LTCF

A friend of mine from work recently bought his first pistol and soon brought it into a different shop than where he bought it to have it fitted for a holster. He purposely left it in his car and told the employee which make and model it was and was then asked if he had it with him. The employee said he can bring it in and will fit it in a few holsters and see which one works best. My friend unloaded it in his car but carried the magazine in (not inserted) which still had rounds. When he got back inside the store the employee said if he had it loaded in his car he will need to see his license to carry. Although puzzled my friend admitted to pulling it out of his wallet and handing it over for inspection. After looking it over the sale went on as expected but when he told me the story I couldn’t believe it. I’ve never heard of a counter salesman asking for a license to carry. I think the guy was on some sort of power trip. I personally don’t think I would’ve showed him mine and if the guy made a stink about it I would’ve walked out and told him I’ll be in the parking lot waiting for the police if he chooses to call them. The shop was The Sportsmans Shop in New Holland by the way, the location of many reported absurdities. Has anyone ever heard of such a scenario?

    ^^^ This. ^^^

Due my mode of carry being open-carry. I've had conversations/encounters with strangers during which they've asked me if I had a LTCF. And I responded that was none of their business.

That's bizarre. I would definitely have walked out and not showed my license. I don't see why your friend's license is any of his business.
