Old .22 Ammo ??
Was cleaning out "stuff" in the closet & found some old, old Remington .22 LR ammo. Each round has some "tarnish" on the lead. The rounds do not chamber well because the "tarnish" has made the lead a little larger than when new. A couple 100 rounds. Can these rounds be easily cleaned for use or is it all unusable?
If unusable, how to dispose?
Thank you.

Re: Old .22 Ammo ??
I’ve always enjoyed tossing a random one into the campfire when nobody is looking.
NOTE: really good way to hear a Pastor or Deacon utter the f word. Pretty good way to get hurt too, you know, if you don’t run fast and your victims do.

I have taken ammo like that and used a rag to clean them off. It doesn't really take that long. Turn on a movie and clean them up. Or you could just throw them into the camp fire

If the boxes are old, (pre 1960's) I'd buy them. I love to add old stuff to my inventory of collectables. I currently have Sears and J.C. Higgins ammo as some of my oldest on the wall.

Collectible, possibly ? Someone will buy it ! Only 100 rounds, dont throw into the trash for many reasons. Here is a safe way to clean them ! A rag with vinegar will clean them right up and no need to saturate the rag works every time !

If you clean them do it outside. You don't want the lead salts in your house.

What you have is oxidation. It will wipe off with a little effort. It's no different than cleaning the connections on your car battery. You may have a few failures to fire but the ammo is otherwise safe to shoot.

Just remember that lead oxide is easy to injest and not that good for you....Wash your hands!
