CMP has Field Grade M1 Garands in stock for $650 shipped.

Buying from CMP might look like a pain in the ass, but it's not all that bad once you do it the first time. You do need to belong to a CMP Affiliated Club (like Washington County Machine Guns & Tactical Range) but there are cheaper clubs like Garand Collectors Association.

Even if you aren't looking for the historical significance, I'd rather have an M1 garand over many others for a .30 cal battle rifle. Can't beat this price.

Definitely agree with the OP on the CMP.
The rifles are well worth the price, and the requirements are no big thing.
There are also exceptions for guys with LEO credentials and others.
I recommend going to the CMP in person if you can make the trip.
Very nice people and lots of great stuff on the racks.

why not save your money and add $200 more and actually get one without pitting, a decent bore, and good parts? the CMP hasn't had great stuff in a long time and these are bottom of the barrel

They have thousands of Korean lend lease rifles they are working on now at all different grades so it would make sense to wait until they are released.

I've purchased 2 M1 Garands ( A Winchester and a Springfield ) and one Carbine ( National Postal Meter ) and all 3 were in great shape! Can't beat the price and you get what they advertised based on the grade you select! Have my paperwork in now for a 1911 - fingers crossed

Yes along with proof of some kind of training or participation in the sport. Having your LTCF is also a qualifier. The order forms and requirements are on their site available for download.
