Default A tale of two picnic shootings. CCW stops one in Florida, 3 people shot at one in

    Two back to school picnics.

I couldn’t help but notice the difference in the outcomes here. Two weeks ago at a back to school picnic in Florida, A gunman took out a gun and was ready to start shooting and do some damage. A man with a ccw stepped up and shot the gunman before anyone was hurt. He very well might have stopped a mass shooting. A good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun. Go figure.

A back to school picnic was held in Chicago yesterday. Someone had a gun and started shooting. 3 people were shot, another was beaten. Chicago is notorious for being antigun and giving criminals more rights than non criminals. There were a lot of good people at that picnic, but I am betting non were armed because that is the way Chicago is, criminals ignore antigun laws, and the government of Chicago does everything it can to keep guns out of the hands of citizens. 3 people were shot and no one had a way to protect themselves or others.

Two similar situations. Two different outcomes. The difference? The government of one place realizes criminals ignore laws. Gun laws are more friendly toward citizens than the other. They realize bad guys will get guns no matter what the laws says. As a result a good guy with a gun stopped what could have been a disaster in Florida. And citizens were sitting ducks in Chicago. Shame on the government of Chicago for doing everything they could to take away the self defense rights of its citizens.

Three people were shot at a back-to-school peace picnic held at a playground in Chicago on Saturday night.

A fourth person was beaten up at the event that was held to promote peace and community.

The picnic, which took place at Seward Park on the city’s North Side, was off to a safe start, but onlookers say the mood quickly turned when a group of young men showed up and started fighting.

“It’s senseless and should have never happened,” event organizer Raymond Hatcher told reporters. “We were doing well. Everything was going swell and then a group of guys who were not associated with us, came to the event intoxicated.”

Hatcher, who puts on the event that is attended by hundreds of people every year, shook his head as police roped off the area with red crime-scene tape.

Nineteen-year-old Trayvon Hatcher came with his two nephews to the park on Saturday.

“Everyone was trying to get away,” he told reporters.

Hatcher said when he heard the shots, he grabbed his nephews and left.

Saturday’s incident was one of several shootings that have rocked Chicago over the weekend.

On Friday, as the city girded itself for another weekend of mayhem and bloodshed, a shooting left seven people hurt, including a 3-year-old boy.

The youngster was one of 25 people shot in Chicago over a span of roughly 14 hours from Friday afternoon to early Saturday.

A 27-year-old man was killed after being shot in the chest and arm around 3 p.m. Friday on Chicago's South Side, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Police say the child was hit in his left shin in the Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. He was transported to a children’s hospital and was in stable condition.

Armed Bystander Thwarts Shooting at Florida Back-to-School Picnic

A legally armed bystander stopped a potential massacre at a back-to-school picnic in a Florida park on Saturday, shooting a gunman who had returned to the park for revenge after engaging in a fistfight there earlier in the day.

The gunman, who was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition following the shooting, was the only one of more than 100 picnic attendees to sustain any injuries. The bystander, a vendor operating at the picnic, was licensed to carry a concealed weapon.

“We are extremely grateful that nobody else was injured in this incident,” Titusville deputy police chief Todd Hutchinson said in a statement. “This suspect opened fire at a crowded public park. This could have been so much worse.”

Dwight Harvey, a local DJ who organized the community event, described the incident to Florida Today.

“I was like, who lit firecrackers? I turned around and just said, ‘Oh no, he’s got a gun, he’s got a gun,’” Harvey said. “I thought to myself, ‘Did this just happen?’ People were taking cover, everybody was scattered.”

Harvey then juxtaposed the incident with the high-profile shooting of an unarmed black man in a Florida parking lot earlier this month, suggesting deadly force was justified in the former but not the latter.

“This was standing your ground, in a situation like this with kids involved. Not what you saw in Clearwater — that was murder,” Harvey said, referring to the parking-lot shooting. The gunman in that shooting was not arrested, prompting harsh criticism from Republican lawmakers and NRA representatives, who claim the local sheriff’s use of Florida’s “stand your ground” law to justify his inaction constituted a misinterpretation of the relevant statutes.

Local police have not yet announced whether the armed vendor will face charges for firing on the aggressor in this weekend’s case, but it seems unlikely as state law provides broad protection for armed individuals who use deadly force in the face of a grave, imminent threat.

In Chicago a picnic doesn't count if nobody gets shot.

Kind of like a Dothraki wedding, it's a dull affair unless there's 3 deaths.
