Shot a brand new never cleaned Ruger mk4 jam o matic. Open up a Ruger nra commemorative and a Ruger 22 revolver both never touched and found salt bleeding. Lucky they weren’t damaged.

It’s a good idea to clean new and new to you guns.

Hi-Points don’t need stripping. The are straight blow back, few fire control parts and will wash up with a can of break cleaner and lube up with any spray oil, watch the wd40, it turns to gum but it takes time. Detail cleaning of a hi point is lipstick on a pig. You ain’t gonna improve a thing.

As long as your aren't shooting cast lead out of it, it won't get that dirty.

You mentioned ''jam o matic''. Six months ago I bought a Ruger 22/45. It's nice pistol but I'm starting to think it's is a jam o matic. One round of 20 will FTFeed. When I look at it the actual projectile seems to be hanging up against the top of the chamber. Just a light tap on the bolt will convince it to slide right in. I'm starting to wonder if it is the shape of the projectile is causing the problem. Joe

lol. Actually, I was being serious for once. Lighter fluid does a great job for hosing out trigger groups and dirty slides.

Now....that cat litter idea. Pure genius.
