    Default EXCEPTIONS (relating to licenses)

I was reading through 18 Pa.C.S. ss 6106 and I had a question when it came to the "exceptions".

Constables, sheriffs, prison or jail wardens, or thier deputies, policemen of this Commonwealth or its political subdivisions, or other law-enforcement officers.

    Bold is mine.

Would this also include a correctional officer? Or am I reading into it too much?

Not in PA, COs do not have Peace Officer Status. When they say or their deputies, they mean Deputy Warden. COs are NOT deputies of the warden.

    For further clarification...

Wouldn't a CO fall under the Department of Corections, which is a law-enforcement entity in PA. Hence "other law-enforcement officers"

    Not arguing, just curious.
    Thanks

I know you're not arguing I've asked numerous state guys and they all say the same thing, they are NOT LEOs and they all MUST have LTCFs. When I was one, I needed one. Granted I was just a county guy, but still needed it. This is straight from a PA CO: PA state (can't speak for the county guys) have no arrest powers and can carry concealed the same way everyone else can, ltcf. We carry only on Hospital trips/appts. or transport.

DOC in PA do NOT meet the criteria for LEO. And no I don't know why they don't. Shefearsnothing, might be able to answer this better as I think she once mentioned her hubby is an ex-co.

A buddy of mine is a CO for Bucks County. I asked him the same question about carrying on the job. He said only the Warden and appointed Deputies can carry. The Warden has the option of making any CO a Deputy or not.
