Springfield Milspec 1911: any fans?

I picked up a Springfield Armory 1911a1 Milspec. I prefer the traditional style 1911, as close to the GI models of days of yore as possible.

Fit and finish is OUTSTANDING. It’s a tight pistol with zero slide/frame play. Barrel lockup is tight, with zero movement fore or aft. Thumbsafety is perfectly executed, and the grip safety has zero rattle.

Parkarized finish is attractive, as are the cocobolo wood panels.

I like Colts, but this Springfield is top notch, especially considering the price.

Anyone else like their Milspec Springfield? Thoughts on reliability and longevity? do they tend to work well?

I was 1911 shopping when they were first released..ended up with one of the first 500 made....liked it so much went back some time later and bought a second gi model.
Read on the interwebs that they look like the ithicas...so I picked up some take off usgi stocks.

The first semi-auto I ran in competition 30+ yrs ago was a Springfield milspec 1911. The hammer used to bite the shit out of me, but it was a great, reliable gun. Eventually, my father added a proper beavertail and bobbed the hammer. I've been thinking about getting another to use for Wild Bunch matches.

I have the GI model. The only thing it needed was to be rid of the nanny lock on the mainspring housing.I replaced that using this information. The pistol itself shoots every time the trigger is pulled when loaded with standard 230gr ball ammo. I've never tried any of that new fangled XTPHPXYZ stuff in this gun.

The Mil-Spec has the lowered ejection port, visible sights and different grips than the GI. Here's some info about both.

I've been wanting to buy one for my dad for years. He wants one "that looks like they used in WWII". But since I can't afford to buy a real WWII issue 1911, I've been looking at these. Unfortunately, when I have the spare cash to buy one, I can't find one locally. When I've found them, I never have the extraneous cash.

He can't shoot the damn thing anyway with his arthritis. He'd just take it out and hold it and that's OK.

A purist would argue it's not really Mil-Spec since the sights , safety and grips are not Mil-Spec.

One of my kid's buddies has one. He OC's it cross draw to scare all the Bucks County Subaru drivers. (His words, not mine)

It has a very nice fit and finish for the price, and it's a great shooter.

It's not quite as accurate as my cheapo plain-jane green parkerized Rock Island, but it looks a lot nicer.
