Question Non-res transport/possession while visiting PA

    Hi folks,

Going to be visiting my hometown/family in Erie in August. NJ resident here (sorry) with lots of non-resident permits that I understand are no longer honored in PA thanks to a former state AG that was so bad she is now in prison.

They are ME, NH, CT, VA, FL, UT (I had NV but it has expired). All not valid, right?

But I should be able to transport an unloaded handgun en route to Erie, and have it in the place where we are staying, right?

Also, there is this section of 6106:

(Prohibition on carry does not apply to)

    (11) Any person while carrying a firearm in any vehicle, which person possesses a valid and lawfully issued license for that firearm which has been issued under the laws of the United States or any other state.

Does this mean I can legally have the gun in the car with me while going to/from Erie? While driving around Erie?

    Thanks in advance,

    whatshappeninman

You're good in the car with any permit. Outside the car you could OC without a permit, unless there is still a State of Emergency in effect. Someone will be along with a link to look that status up.

Seems we are in a perpetual SOE, so I would assume. Even if we are not, it seems we are just one rain storm away from another.

Be sure you do have a valid permit from any other state before you make the trip.

    PSA:
I believe the majority here believe there is peril for you to transport your handgun while in NJ. There is no legal exception while you are still in NJ for transporting for the purpose of visiting another state, unless that visit involves range use. It's a gray area, and worth mentioning.

Agreed. Being legal here has gotten a little more complicated, but still (IMO) possible for many. For NJ residents, legally getting into PA is the problem.

Thanks. That includes non-resident permits, correct?

    Yes.
That is legislatively written, so the AG cannot mess with it.

But only for vehicle travel, as already noted.

So a NR with valid permit could OC and then continue to carry while in a car? Assuming no SOE

There is a legal exception when permanently moving to your new home. Which I might suggest. Come to America. We have cookies...

Yes, but that's not the issue.
And I never got any cookies.
