Be so traumatized at having to engage in a gun battle and possibly kill someone that you could not possibly gather your wits and mental state up to properly render aid to the poor, poor soul that is now bleeding to death and may soon meet his maker. May it put a tear in your eye, a hole in your heart, and, when no one is looking, a smile on your face.

You're involved in using your weapon to defend yourself.
    Attacker is down badly injured.
Should you render aid until medics arrive?
Kicker is you have background and mucho experience in advanced trauma care.
My department has added to the SOP's that we give aid to the suspect. While our scenario will be a little different with other cover officers, EMS, etc. responding almost immediately. We are all human and the thought of aiding someone who was just trying to kill us seems extreme, remember your intent was to "stop the threat" not be judge, jury and executioner.

While some of these posts are the result of true emotion and dark humor, they won't be so funny if you are sitting in the defendant's chair at a Civil or even worse, Criminal Trial. Just some food for thought. Social Media has been known to come back and bite some in the ass.

You finish him off. We all have seen in movies where the bad guy gets up and continues to wreak havoc after your back is turned! You think he is dead but he isnt, remember Friday the 13th. He came back for a few more movies!
Gotta stay awake, gotta try and shake off this creeping malaise

all depends on the situation but if the threat is not under control, ie in cuffs or secured.. nope.. just gonna keep the muzzle pointed their way until LEO shows up

Hopefully from behind cover and in a way that you don't appear to be the threat.

I am neither a medical doctor or a mind-reader. I stopped his aggressive assault upon me. Now I have to deal with recognizing I have injured and possibly killed a person. My own heart rate is 108 and I am gasping for breath. I am in no condition to assist without assistance. Sorry. Have to wait for response to my 911, which I called with great difficulty. From what I've read, they are only minutes away.

If you had to shoot them, the only consideration at that point is your safety. How can you possibly know or trust someone you just had to shoot, that their intentions are genuine? If you both go out with a toe tag because he stuck a knife in your neck when you bent down, whos the better for that? Surely not you. Or your family. Or society. Call 911, cover him with the firearm, reassure him help is on the way. That's as far as I'm going.
