AR 15 Shooting Left

To update the thread a bit, I dropped the rifle off to the shop I bought it in, and the store owner called in the gunsmith who built it to come check it out. I left, and when I came back the gunsmith picked it up and took it back to his shop to work on it. Hopefully I get it back operating properly, but only time will tell. I will be sure to update with any information I get

I have a 15" rail on one of my rifles and I can make it flex if I wedge my finger between the rail and the barrel. The barrel will flex a lot more when it was fired. If the rail is straight (a precision ground straight edge to check) and the barrel nut and rail is machined properly the upper receiver could be out of square. Some upper receivers may have the front face (where the barrel extension seats) out as much as .010".

So went back to the store today to see what was happening with the gun. The store owner had called the gunsmith approximately an hour to me arriving and he was told that the rail was defective, and was unable to be properly tightened into place. The gunsmith called the manufacturer and is waiting on a replacement rail that’s getting shipped to him. Again, will update when I get more information

Is it a factory rifle or a parts build?

@Hodgie it’s a parts build, but was built by a gunsmith and purchased in a store

Must not be much of a gunsmith. Everyone makes mistakes but when you are building guns to sell stuff like that should not pass.

@dkf I fully agree. I didn’t know prior to purchasing, and other than this the rifle operates great. If I get it back and it is still shooting left I will make sure to bring it to a real gunsmith. You win some you lose some I guess, I just hope it gets resolved

You have the patience of a saint and whatever spiritual guidance you received from this forum, I'm equally glad you gave the vendor and the builder a second chance to make things right...

@bamboomaster Well thank you, I just feel it’s improper to make assumptions on a persons quality of work based on one incident. If it was that the rifle did not operate, that’s another story, but that wasn’t the case. It was out of his control and everyone makes mistakes, so no reason in my eyes to not give him a second chance.
