Electronic in-ear hearing protection

I found that the electronic ear muffs never provided the same level of protection as the regular kind. No matter what I am shooting (even using a suppressor) I double up using ear plugs and a set of peltors with 30 NRR. I tried other kinds but peltors seem to have a softer cushion around the ear that provide better coverage than the other brands. If I was going to a shooting class I might consider using electronic ear muffs but shooting at the gun club the non electronic ones work for me and provide more protection.

I’ve used both the Howard Leight muffs and the Walker silencer plugs with success. I shoot at an outdoor range, with overhead cover and never felt that the noise reduction wasn’t enough. I have only used the plugs once while sighting in my 300 savage and they allowed for a good cheek weld with the stock that I was never able to get with muff style ear pro.
