it depends on the rifling twist rate of the barrel.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^What he said.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Twist rate determines if the bullet flies true or just tumbles after it leaves the bore. Look up the stats on your T/C. Compare with the twist rate for a centerfire rifle shooting same caliber/weight projectile.

Twist on TC Hawkins are generally 1:48 and shoot maxiballs very well , sabots ? Never done that but who knows may shoot fine I'd look for the shortest bullets to try out first and push them pretty hard speed helps with the stability if your near that edge of stability due to slow twist . What caliber btw ?

I have shot Hornaday 250 gr saboted bullets out of my CVA 1:48. They did fine. I since switched back to maxi-balls as they are easier to load in a dirty bore and pull back out if you forget the powder (not that I have ever done that ).

No just fill the lube grooves in the maxiball with lube with your fingers , crisco actually works well or whatever you lube the patches with .

In my 50 Cal. Hawkins I shoot 250 grain .45 Cal hornady SST with the red Sabot. 80 Grains of FF and it is very accurate and deadly load for me. Took a cow sized doe this last late season with a double lung shot at 20 yards. She ran about 30 yards and flopped.

This is the same bullet I shoot in my CVA Optima Pro in-line.
