    Default Privatizing PICS and NICS

Hi poofa, here is a question for you.

Since the gov is probably not going to get rid of PICS or NICS anytime soon, I wonder if there is a way to repeal and replace them with something less egregious, such as privatization rather than direct government oversight.

Any creative thinkers out there? I don't care if you think it would pass or not. I just want some good ideas. The better they are the less likely they are to pass, but that doesn't mean they are bad ideas.

    Go!

Oh gee; let's turn PICS and NICS into a for-profit entity. What could go wrong with that ? [/sarcasm]

So, how much more are you willing to pay for a background check???
And, do you really want a low bid contract winner to have the responsibility for protecting your ID and determining who does and does not get a gun???

    NO for privatization.

A private company would have to operate at a profit. Government need only operate at breaking even.

These are the wrong questions to be asking.

The question is "would you rather?"

PICS and NICS are already in the most incompetent and corrupt hands they can get. They are already in Gov Wolf's hands. They are already in the FBI's hands, BATFE hands, political hacks, etc... There are thousands of people getting false negatives and false positives. Bad guys are passing the checks and good guys are getting held up. The appeals process is horrible, slow and laden with government hacks and leaks from top to bottom. Who do you trust to protect your identity and gun-buying information? The government? That is the system we already have in place.

Would you rather have that, or a private company?

The question is whether you think the government will do a better or worse job than the private sector. I would rather have the private sector give it a try. I can't imagine it being worse. The right solution is get rid of PICS and NICS altogether, but if we are going to have them, lets at least take them out of government hands, right?

Apparently there is a lot more faith in the government here than I would have guessed.

I would rather have the government than a private company for all of the "wrong questions".

Also ask yourself, what if they go out of business?

If they go out of business that would probably be the best case scenario!

Government incompetency is the best incompetency.
