Default "Semi-automatic long guns" - a new term for journalists?

Three officers were apparently wounded by gunfire while attempting to detain a person of interest in an off-campus shooting.

"In searching for the suspect, police blocked off traffic around 5618 E. 28th St. Officers with semiautomatic long guns were positioned at each street corner".

    https://www.kansascity.com/news/loca...214921815.html

The term "semiautomatic long guns" may be the new vernacular when referring to law enforcement.

You just gotta wonder if 2A citizens are going to receive the same courtesy by politicians thoroughly engaged in banning "assault rifles"...

EDIT: Article now appears to have been rewritten deleting the reference to "semiautomatic long guns". No surprise there.

Now they wouldn't want people thinking that the police use those same evil "assault rifles" that only the fringe right 2A crazies use now would they .

Well hell! You already know when the Police use an AR it's a "Patrol Rifle" but when you use one it's an "assault weapon".

In regards to LEO, the code term is a "carbine" in Canadian press and a "patrol rifle" in US press. Said journalist must not have gotten the memo and has been disciplined for wrongthink.

Journalists have a lot working against them.

By and large they have no experience with guns, so they repeat whatever others say, or whatever they mash together of things others have said.
    Their editors are the same
Their lack of experience also gives them fear
Their lack of experience and fear makes them anti-gun
Their generally leftist "education" trained them to fear guns

Combine these things and you will always get poorly written and outright false stories when guns are involved.
Most of them think an "assault rifle" is an actual kind of rifle, possibly even a brand name. A glock, an AK, an AR, etc... are all basically the same for someone with literally no knowledge or experience.

^^^^^ Now that is funny! If you ever saw the Gary Cooper movie "Sgt. York" there's a scene where after his induction in the Army he's issued what appears to be an M1903 and he gets really profuse in his thanks for being given such a fine rifle(d?) gun.
