Wilderness and Remote First Aid class - July 28-29, 2018 - Dalton, PA
Sorry for the short notice on this class. I was just contacted about holding this class on Friday and just confirmed it last night. Anyone wanting to jump in to the class, let me know ASAP. It is a rare opportunity to take this class during the summer when the weather is much more favorable than it is during the February/March classes. So, if you don't like the cold or have conflicting work requirements, now's your chance.
The Keystone Mountain Bike Team has engaged Sandcut Outdoors to teach a Wilderness and Remote First Aid class in order to meet the training requirements for National Interscholastic Cycling Association’s 2018 racing season. The team is inviting interested members of the public to participate in this training.
This class will cover the fundamentals of wilderness medicine and will include a combination of lecture and hands-on, skills-based scenarios. Topics covered will include managing group dynamics during a medical emergency, evacuation considerations, patient assessment, controlling bleeding and wound care, bone and joint injuries, head/neck/spinal injuries, cold and heat emergencies, altitude illnesses, patient stabilization and movement, cardiac and respiratory illness, allergic and metabolic emergencies and much more.
The course will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29, 2018 at Lackawanna State Park, located in North Abington Twp., PA. This is a 16 hour course and class will run from 9 am to 6 pm daily. An Adult CPR/AED class will be held on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 5 pm to 8:30 pm, for those who do not hold a current Adult CPR/AED certification. A current certification in CPR/AED is required for entry into the Wilderness First Aid class.* The Wilderness and Remote First Aid and the Adult CPR/AED classes will each result in a two-year certification from the American Red Cross upon successful completion of the class.
Class requirements
Must be at least 14 years of age at the time of the class
Must show proof of a current Adult CPR/AED certification*
Class pricing
Wilderness and Remote First Aid only - $180/person
WRFA + Adult CPR/AED bundle* - $225/person (rates reduced for those requiring both classes)
Adult CPR/AED only - $90 (anyone needing CPR training is welcome to join Friday night’s class)
Class will be held both indoors and outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. Please dress for the weather.
Registration for this class will be extended to 6 pm on Wednesday, July 25th, due to the short notification period.
