How difficult is getting a silencer in Philadelphia?
I used the term silencer instead of suppressor or can 'cause the Nun said I'd never learn to speel.
Getting serious now. I am thinking about getting some sort of suppressor to include in my home defense system.
I currently have an alarm system, steel doors and have dowels set to secure my sash windows. I have a plan for any sign of forced entry to include a safe location to retreat, a cell phone, a N frame S&W revolver and a 20 gauge shotgun within arms reach in my bed room. I also have a pair of electronic ear protectors to use if time permits.
Firing any non-suppressed weapon in either of my small bed rooms would effect my hearing for a time. With that in mind I am considering a 22lr or 9mm suppressed pistol.
How much of a hassle is it to get through the process in Philadelphia?
If you have experience I'd appreciate hearing about.
I should add that I do live in an area with a lot of crime. I don't leave the house w/o a primary and back up gun.

Since you no longer need CLEO (chief law enforcement officer) approval, it should be no problem. You file your Form 4 with ATF. Your suppressor dealer can help you with this. You do have to 'inform' CLEO in writing though.

Yep, Philly has been brought, kicking and screaming, into the NFA world.
Still not seeing any difference in the evening crime reports from the city.Attorney Phil Kline, AKA gunlawyer001@gmail.com

Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,

It doesn't seem like he's taken any out of ordinary security steps - reinforced door, alarm system, handgun and long gun. Sounds like a good plan to me regardless of where you live.
As others have said you just have to do the normal Federal requirements and then inform the PPD chief while laughing your butt off he can't stop you.
