Wilderness First Aid for wilderness hunters and anglers - Sept. 15-16 - Cabela's
If you are planning on hunting/fishing the backcountry for elk, moose, caribou, salmon or pike, you owe it to yourself to take this course before flying out.
Wilderness hunting and fishing in truly remote areas can provide the setting for a once-in-a-lifetime experience for many people. However, it also comes with its own set of vulnerabilities and exposures, especially when access to definitive medical care is hours or days away. As such, Cabela’s and Sandcut Outdoors are teaming up to teach you the skills that you would need to be able to appropriately respond to a medical emergency in a delayed care setting if one should occur on your next backcountry trip.
This class will teach you the fundamentals of wilderness medicine and will include a combination of lecture and hands-on, skills-based scenarios. Topics covered will include managing group dynamics during a medical emergency, evacuation considerations, patient assessment, controlling bleeding and wound care, bone and joint injuries, head/neck/spinal injuries, cold and heat emergencies, altitude illnesses, patient stabilization and movement, cardiac and respiratory illness, allergic and metabolic emergencies and much more.
The course will be held on Saturday and Sunday, September 15 and 16, 2018 at the beautiful Cabela’s store, located in Hamburg, PA. This is a 16 hour course and class will run from 9 am to 6 pm daily. An Adult CPR/AED class will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 from 5 pm to 8:30 pm, for those who do not hold a current Adult CPR/AED certification. A current certification in CPR/AED is required for entry into the Wilderness First Aid class.* The Wilderness and Remote First Aid and the Adult CPR/AED classes will each result in a two-year certification from the American Red Cross upon successful completion of the class.
